Welcome Back!

Welcome back students!! I am thrilled to start another semester here at Stevenson! I can’t wait for all the exciting events to start taking place and to see students having a blast. I hope everyone had a great and relaxing break! I will definitely be seeing you around campus and wish everyone a great and joyful semester, as well as a happy and positive new year/semester!

See You Next Year!

The semester has officially ended and final grades will soon be coming out on WebXpress. I would like to wish everyone a safe trip back to their families and a great holiday! I will sure miss everyone; students, faculty, and staff. I cannot wait to see you all in this next year and look forward to more positive things to come to Stevenson in the New Year. Happy Holidays and Happy New Years!

Since the semester is really coming to an end, my roommates and I decided to have a “Pasta Night.” I made my mother’s homemade Italian sauce, along with penguin shaped pasta. I chose the penguin because of how fun it was and the perfect season that we are in. I would have loved if they had horse-shaped pastas, but I wasn’t able to find any (maybe that will be my next suggestion to the university store?). Anyways, we all had a great time enjoying eachothers company and sharing our last meal together before the semester ended. I will sure miss everyone on campus!

The end of the semester is always a hectic time for a majority of students. Thankfully, Stevenson’s library in the School of Business has 24/7 service until Friday, December 16th at 5pm. Many students take advantage of this resource because it allows them to get their work done in a more proficient manner. Good luck to everyone on their finals!!

Cookie Jar

As I was walking out from my final exam, I noticed an awesome event going on at the Greenspring Campus. Student activities was hosting a cookie jar event. Students were able to put ingredients into a jar for the specific type of cookies that they wanted to make. There were recipes from chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, and oatmeal. They had three tables lined up with all the ingredients that you would need, depending on the type of cookie you chose. It was really neat and creative to make these cookie jars, which would be great for holiday gifts. It is events like these, during finals week, that really allow students to be able to step back for a few minutes and take a break.

Stevenson received the Best Buddies Maryland’s Chapter of the Month honors for October 2011!!! This is a great honor for Stevenson and all those who partook in the success of this planning. They organized all buddy pairs and continue to expand. The events that Best Buddies planned, especially in the month of October, for the Halloween party.  I was walking to Rockland and saw Best Buddies selling t-shirts to support their great cause! It is wonderful to see so many students involved in this organization working to help others.

Career Services

The semester is coming to a close, so take advantage of Career Services in Wooded Way. Have them check your resume to make sure your format and choice of wording is correct. Every Wednesday from 1-4pm, no appointment necessary, they will critique your resume with you. If you have never written a resume, no problem! Stop by on Thursdays at 3pm for a 30-minute workshop for all majors. This is a great opportunity for all students, even freshman, to start getting used to partaking in.

Stevenson celebrates all the holidays around this time of the year. While walking to go to dinner at Rockland, I noticed this beautiful table that shows the diversity on campus with the variety of holidays in this month. There was a menorah to support Hanukkah, a kinara to support Kwanzaa, and a Nativity set to support Christmas. Everyone’s culture and ethnicity is important in the Stevenson community. This is one way to that Stevenson shows its supports for its students, faculty, and staff.

Stevenson Tours

I was on my way to class in the Dawson Center, on the Greenspring Campus, when I noticed a long line of students sitting along the art building. I was confused as to what was going on. I then thought about it and realized that there was a large school tour going on. It is great to see so many prospective students interested in all that Stevenson has to offer!

I love to visit the Admissions Office at least once a day to say hi to my fellow friends. As I walked in today, I noticed how decorative the office was. There was a beautifully decorated Christmas Tree, as well as a Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tree!! The Salvation Army Tree was like nothing I have seen before. There is an angel on the tree, which represents a child who is under the age of 12, who’s parents have qualified for holiday assistance. To participate, remove the angel for the tree and register online with a volunteer and then shop for your angel. This is a great opportunity for students, facility, and staff to take part of a great event that Stevenson is holding for those who are in need of our help. Visit the Admissions Office!
